CORPORATE SAFETY OFFICER

QUALIFICATIONS

2-3 years’ experience in large-scale construction safety.
 

COR auditor certification required.
 

OFA Level 2 or equivalent, and/or above, required.
 

Valid BC driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple work locations within the GVR.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement, maintain, review, and administer the company’s health and safety program to WorkSafeBC Certificate of Recognition (COR) standards for all divisions and locations, including the head office and shop.

  • Conduct the internal COR audit in years two and three of the audit cycle.

  • Coordinate the external COR certification audit every year one of the audit cycle.

  • Liaise with project staff and site general contractor to verify that safe systems for work tasks are in operation and that all legislative and safety requirements are being observed and adhered to.

  • Conduct regular site inspections and internal audits to examine site activities and confirm processes are compliant with legislative and safety requirements.

  • Ensure corrective and preventive actions are established and implemented.

  • Review the overall safety and performance of subcontractors and identify improvement opportunities.

  • Ensure the impacts and risks related to health, safety and environment for projects are anticipated and controlled.

  • Ensure the services provided to the clients meet their expectations while complying with the standards and legislative requirements regarding health, safety, and environment.

  • Facilitate all JOHS meetings and assist with follow-up and corrective actions.

  • Purchase and maintain inventory and distribute safety supplies and equipment to job sites, as required.

  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct regular and emergency safety meetings as required.

  • Plan, coordinate, conduct and participate in the evacuation drill on an annual basis.

  • Administer employee safety orientations, as required.

  • Administer respirator fit testing, as required.

  • Coordinate hearing tests, as required.

  • Fall protection equipment inspection and monitoring.

  • Administer first aid services, when necessary.

  • Conduct incident investigations & reports as per regulations.

  • In conjunction with the HR Manager, liaise with WorkSafeBC and workers to coordinate injury recovery and graduated return to work.

  • Use incident statistics to coordinate the safety program for injury / incident prevention.

  • Liaise with foremen on a weekly basis, ensuring all documentation and processes are meeting compliance within company and regulatory policies.

  • Other duties as assigned or required from time to time.
